Green areas and heat islands in Milan
Studio theme
Uncertain times - This studio explores how design can address both environmental and social challenges. With climate change, pollution, and resource management on one side, and social inequalities and fragmentation on the other, design has the power to create meaningful solutions. The course encourages reimagining how humans interact with nature while fostering stronger, more inclusive communities. Through innovative systems and practices, we aim to build a more sustainable and equitable future.
Our focus
In this broad problem space, we explored various issues through research, brainstorming, and iterative exercises. After multiple rounds of diverging and converging ideas, we identified our focus: How might we expand Biblioteca degli Alberi’s influence across Milan while fostering a community that makes the city more livable?
My role
With no predefined roles at the start, we identified our contributions based on our skills and interests. My role evolved to focus on experience design, where I facilitated workshops with my teammates to drive the project forward. Over time, I became the 'Engager,' ensuring collaboration and momentum across different phases.
Key learnings
Working with peers in a multidisciplinary, international design environment taught me valuable lessons in collaboration and storytelling:
Keep an open mind – Never dismiss an idea too soon; every concept has potential when viewed from a different perspective.
Tailor your storytelling – Adjusting your narrative based on the audience helps communicate ideas and thought processes more clearly.
Be mindful of language – Words can carry different connotations across cultures, so continuous feedback is essential to ensure clarity and alignment.
FIN.
